The Fautasi (meaning ‘Build Together’) Pasifika Youth Outreach Program is a community based early intervention program for young people from Pacific Island and Maori backgrounds living in Brimbank and Melton in Melbourne’s north west, who are at risk of disengaging from school or becoming involved in the Youth Justice system.
The objectives of the project are to:
- Provide targeted, short-term intervention to address the needs of Pasifika young people aged 12-24 years living in Brimbank or Melton who are at risk of disengaging from school or entering the Youth Justice system.
- increase the young peoples connection to their culture and community.
- Provide timely support at the early stages of school disengagement or involvement with the Youth Justice system, assisting young people to complete their education and diverting them away from further offending.
- Provide young people with the support they need to complete secondary education and develop skills and confidence to enter their chosen profession.
- Increase community safety by reducing young peoples offending.
