Join us for the Nutbush

Since its release in 1973 Tina Turner’s Nutbush City Limits has been loved by Australians, with generations taking to the dance floor and getting their Nutbush on. No one can explain why Aussies love the Nutbush so much. All we know is that a wedding is not a wedding without it, and the dance is even taught at schools across the country!
With Australia reeling from the effects of COVID-19, renowned youth worker  and social justice warrior, Les Twentyman OAM, wants to raise awareness of the mental health impacts of this pandemic on young Australians, in the most Aussie way possible, by us all doing the Nutbush in the streets – or our lounge rooms!

Social isolation, uncertainty, stresses and anxiety have all become part of everyday life as we deal with the tragic impacts of the coronavirus, all contributing towards poorer physical and mental health.

As we know, dancing, laughter and movement can bolster physical and mental health by helping to lift mood, ease anxiety and ward off depression.

Les Twentyman knows it – he has been teaching the Nutbush dance to young people since its birth back in the 70s. Today, Les is dusting off his moves to help promote better mental health, mateship and unity.

The Nutbush has long been performed at schools, social gatherings and community events, which have been off limits during the COVID-19 crisis.

Here at the Les Twentyman Foundation,we have continued to provide crucial support for young people and their families through this crisis and want you to join us in our cause to lift the spirits of the nation.

So, Les and the team from the Les Twentyman Foundation are challenging Australians to stand up to the virus by strengthening our physical and mental health, staying united against the crisis and remaining connected to one another during these unprecedented times of social distancing… all through the power of “The Nutbush“.
